Collecting girl scout pins is one of my interests when I was way younger. I love wearing my sash with all the badges I earned and all the pins that I got. Then came a time when pins are not for official associations or institutions only because people started wearing custom pins.
A big sister in the school was so fond of collecting those pins that she has a cloth hanging by one of her room wall with all the pins that she has collected. With the availability of companies making custom pins, it has become easier for people to have a pin made according to their preference during special occasions or whatever special event there is. Some even makes custom pins as their giveaways during events.
